Husna Maryam

Husna is a health systems leader and foreign-trained physician with more than 20 years of combined experience in clinical operations, healthcare management, quality improvement, privacy and governance, and cancer committee leadership. Her experience includes 13 years in the Canadian healthcare system and 12 years overseas in Pakistan and Abu Dhabi. 

She worked across Canadian and international healthcare systems, including Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Island Health, Northern Health, the Government of Nunavut, and Tawam Hospital (Abu Dhabi, Johns Hopkins Medicine International). She brings a unique combination of frontline clinical experience as a foreign-trained General Practitioner and system-level expertise in health information management, privacy, quality improvement, and healthcare transformation.  

Husna has held leadership, advisory, and coordination roles focused on operational governance, digital health, electronic health records, surgical analytics, oncology registry operations, and privacy-compliant data strategy. Her work has included supporting provincial surgical initiatives through ERAS Alberta; developing privacy and audit frameworks for electronic health records; supporting barcode medication administration and patient identification systems; improving bedside medication verification; reducing the risk of patient misidentification and medication errors; and leading multi-site healthcare operations and workflow improvement initiatives. 

She holds the Certified Healthcare Executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders and is in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association and the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council. Husna is completing a Master’s degree in Precision Medicine at the University of Calgary. Her Harvard Medical School AI capstone project was well-received, and her research abstract was scheduled to be presented at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
